Embraced and Trusted

Hello! I'm Rev. Jen Adams...

“God so loved the world!” the gospel of John proclaims. At Grace, we hear these words as a holy and life-giving challenge. Guided by tradition, we’re open to new ways in which the Spirit is present, welcoming, feeding and transforming us all into a loving force for good.

I am a Michigan native, and grew up in West Michigan as part of a large, loving, and sometimes rowdy family. I graduated from the Academy for Vocational Leadership in 2018 and am proud to be the first priestly candidate to be ordained via local formation in our diocese. I am passionate about Christian formation, liturgy and church music, and completely in love with the Church and her people. I am bi-vocational, working full time for a social services organization based in Michigan that serves refugee youth. In my off hours I love to sing, write, and travel with my husband and two teenaged daughters.

I joined the Grace family in 2018. I was born and raised right here in Holland, MI. I moved away for a number of years and traveled the world, only to come back and settle here in Holland. I have a passion for working with children and youth and have done so in ministry, non-profits, and a variety of other settings. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Leadership and 8+ years of experience working with kids and youth. I am married to Devin Shea and we are proud parents of our wiener dog, Rory. If you find me outside of the church you will likely find me playing board games, eating good food with friends, binge-watching the latest TV series, or road-tripping around the states.

I was born and raised here in Holland, MI. I graduated from West Ottawa High School and earned a Bachelors Degree in Hospitality & Event Management from Grand Valley State University. I have been working at Grace as the Parish Administrator since 2015 and absolutely love being a part of the staff here. When I'm not at Grace, you can find me bar tending & managing at Our Brewing Company, loving on and spoiling my boxer pup, Olive, boating in the summer, and traveling anywhere warmer than Michigan in the winter.

I joined Grace Episcopal Church as their Finance Manager in October 2018. Originally from the Kansas City area, I graduated from the University of Kansas in 1984 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. I immediately joined Black & Veatch Engineers in my hometown of Overland Park, Kansas where, over 25 years, I worked my way from Project Accountant up to Government Contract Specialist. Then, I accepted an offer to join Rees & Kincaid Attorneys at Law where my accounting experience gave me the opportunity to work with Trust and Estate Administration and eventually earned the title of paralegal. While working as a paralegal, I also signed on with RedPropeller Speakers Bureau as their Finance and Contract Manager and continue in that position today. When the attorneys I worked for retired in 2015, I decided to sell my log home on 30 acres in Bates City, Missouri and move closer to family in Michigan. In 2016, I built a house in Douglas, Michigan where I now reside. I love the Beatles, classic cars and have spent many years working in the art of stained glass.

Originally from Minnesota, Michigan has been home for about 37 of the last 50 years. Over this period but at different times, I resided in several locations including Sault Ste Marie, Oscoda/Tawas, Grand Rapids, and have now been in Holland since 1994. My working careers were highlighted by serving for 21 years in the US Air Force and 23 years with the Holland Board of Public Works when I retired in 2017. Facilities support has been the common thread throughout my working life. It has been an honor to work with the wonderful staff and parishioners of Grace Episcopal Church.
